Believers look to the day of no more fighting, sickness, poverty, or pain. The day when we will see God! Revelation 7:15 states, “15 Therefore, “they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence. John finishes his vision of the new Jerusalem by telling us that we will see through the light that comes from God. And we, the worshiping servants of God will reign for eternity. The thing is though, when we get so hung up on trying to understand what we don’t have the capacity to understand, we miss the point.
Many want to debate the “truth” of John’s vision using concepts that humans can understand. Because we can’t understand how a tree can grow on both sides of a river that is flowing down the middle of the street, some say the description is nothing more than symbolism.
Loved ones, I contend that the Bible isn’t lacking truth or accuracy, what is lacking is our ability to understand. We will not be able to understand until we have the ability to stand in God’s presence and see Him face-to-face.
John’s description is like a travel brochure. We can read it and see what is waiting for us. But, unlike a travel brochure that talks up the vacation spot to attract tourists, John shows us just a smidgen of the wonderful place where believers will spend eternity.
