Genesis chapters 12-15 focus on Abram (later renamed Abraham). God calls Abram to leave his homeland for a land He will show him, promising to make him a great nation, bless him, and bless those who bless him. Trusting God, Abram journeys to Canaan with his wife Sarai and nephew Lot. Facing famine, they move to Egypt, where Abram deceives Pharaoh about Sarai's identity. After their return, tensions arise between Abram's and Lot's herdsmen, prompting them to part ways. Abram settles in Canaan while Lot chooses the Jordan Valley, nearing the infamous cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. After aiding in a regional war and rescuing Lot, Abram meets Melchizedek, the king of Salem. God later reaffirms His promise to Abram, sealing it with a covenant, assuring him of countless descendants and the land they will inherit.
