Knowledge and the Armor of God

Habakkuk 2:14 speaks of a future where the earth will be filled with the knowledge of God's glory, as waters cover the sea. It's a hopeful vision that contrasts with the injustice and suffering the prophet sees in his world. Essentially, it's a promise that one day, everyone will see and understand the greatness of God, and His presence will be undeniable, bringing peace and justice where it’s desperately needed. This verse offers a reminder that no matter how dark things seem, God's plan is moving toward a beautiful and just conclusion.

Devotional:

There’s something awe-inspiring about the idea of the whole earth being filled with the knowledge of God’s glory. Habakkuk 2:14 paints a vivid picture of this reality—God’s glory so pervasive that it covers the earth like the waters cover the sea.

The "knowledge of God's glory" refers to an understanding and awareness of who God is—His majesty, power, holiness, and love. It’s about recognizing His presence in every part of creation and in every aspect of our lives. When we talk about God’s glory, we’re talking about the very essence of His nature and the manifestation of His divine attributes. This knowledge isn’t just intellectual; it’s experiential. It’s the deep realization that God is glorious, not just in theory, but in every moment, every breath, and every corner of the universe.

Imagine the ocean, vast and seemingly endless, with water touching every shore and filling every depth. This is how the knowledge of God’s glory will fill the earth—completely and overwhelmingly. It’s a promise that speaks to the ultimate triumph of God’s presence and power, a day when every knee will bow and every tongue will confess His lordship.

But even now, we are called to be part of spreading this knowledge. As followers of Christ, we have the privilege of experiencing God’s glory in our lives and sharing it with others. Whether it’s through acts of kindness, sharing the gospel, or simply living in a way that reflects God’s character, we contribute to the world’s growing awareness of His glory.

This knowledge transforms us. When we truly grasp the magnitude of God’s glory, it changes how we see the world and our place in it. We begin to see God’s fingerprints everywhere—in the beauty of creation, in the love we share with others, in the everyday moments of grace. And as this knowledge grows, so does our desire to honor Him with our lives, to live in a way that reflects His glory.

Action: Take time today to reflect on the ways you see God’s glory in your life and the world around you. Consider how you can help spread the knowledge of His glory in your community, through words, actions, and a life that honors Him.

Prayer: Lord, we stand in awe of Your glory, which fills the earth and touches every part of our lives. Help us to grow in our knowledge of Your greatness and to reflect that glory in all we do. Use us to spread the knowledge of Your glory, so that others may see You and be drawn to Your love and majesty. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Thought for the Day: The knowledge of God’s glory is destined to fill the earth, and we are called to be carriers of that glory, reflecting His presence in all we do.
