Blessings Remembered

Open journal on a wooden table, symbolizing reflection and gratitude for God’s faithfulness and blessings remembered.

Psalm 103:2 urges us, “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” It’s a gentle reminder to pause and remember the countless ways God has cared for us—mercies seen and unseen, prayers answered and even those answered differently than we expected. When we take time to recall His faithfulness, our hearts shift from worry to worship. Gratitude deepens as we recognize that every breath, every moment of strength, and every glimpse of joy is a gift from His hand. Blessings remembered grow our faith, and praise becomes the natural response of a thankful soul.

Devotional: Gratitude begins with remembering. David understood this when he wrote, “Forget not all His benefits.” The human heart forgets quickly—especially when worries grow loud or blessings become routine. That’s why Scripture calls us to pause, recall, and give thanks. Remembering roots us in truth: that God’s goodness didn’t start yesterday, and it won’t end tomorrow.

Psalm 103 unfolds like a gratitude list written in awe. David names God’s mercies one by one: forgiveness, healing, redemption, compassion, renewal. Each memory is a marker of grace. When we take time to recall what God has done, it steadies us for whatever lies ahead. Gratitude grows in the soil of remembrance.

It’s easy to forget when life moves fast. But when we stop and trace His fingerprints over our past, we realize how faithfully He’s been at work all along. The answered prayers, the ones still waiting, the near misses we didn’t even know He prevented—all of it tells a story of love that refuses to let go.

This kind of remembering does more than warm the heart; it shapes the soul. When you choose to look back through the lens of gratitude, bitterness loses power and hope takes root. Even painful seasons begin to shimmer with meaning as you see how God used them to strengthen your faith.

David’s song invites us to look beyond the surface—to remember not only what God did but who God is. His love is steadfast. His mercy is new every morning. His grace never runs out. Remembering that changes everything.

Thanksgiving becomes richer when we reflect on where we’ve been with God—how He’s carried us, corrected us, and comforted us. Gratitude doesn’t ignore hardship; it names God’s presence within it. And when we remember, praise naturally follows.

So today, take time to remember. Let your gratitude reach backward before it reaches forward. Bless the Lord, O my soul—and forget not all His benefits.

Action: Write down three specific ways God has shown His faithfulness this year and thank Him aloud for each one.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the countless blessings that I often overlook. Help me remember Your goodness in every chapter of my life. Let my memory be filled with mercy. Amen.

Thought for the Day: Remembering God’s faithfulness yesterday strengthens gratitude today.

Cheryl is on vacation so no sermon this week.  This week of devotionals invites us to slow down, remember God’s goodness, and recognize His grace in both joy and struggle. Gratitude transforms ordinary days into sacred ones. From the first whisper of thanks to the song that lingers long after the feast, these reflections remind us that discipleship is found in giving thanks—in all things, through all seasons, and always in Christ.
