Before You Go, a wide 16:9 photo-realistic image of a quiet road at sunrise stretching into soft golden light, symbolizing God going before His people into unknown places. The image includes the title Before You Go and a paraphrase of Deuteronomy 31:7–8.

Deuteronomy 31:7–8 records Moses encouraging Joshua as he prepares to lead God’s people into the promised land. Moses reminds him that the Lord will go before him, stay with him, and never leave or forsake him. Joshua does not have to be afraid because God’s presence will be his strength.

Devotional: There is something unsettling about standing at the edge of a new season. Even when the new thing is good, it can still feel heavy. We like to know what to expect. We like to know where the hard places will be, what will be required of us, and whether we will have what it takes when the moment comes.

Joshua knew something about that. For years, he had followed Moses. He had seen God provide manna, water, guidance, correction, and mercy. He had watched Moses lead through wilderness, complaint, conflict, and uncertainty. But now Moses would not be the one leading Israel into the promised land. Joshua would.

That kind of calling can feel lonely. People may cheer you on, but they cannot carry the weight for you. They may stand beside you, but they cannot make every decision for you. Joshua needed more than encouragement from Moses. He needed the promise that God Himself would go before him.

That is what Moses gives him. The Lord will go before you. The Lord will be with you. The Lord will not leave you or forsake you. Those words do not remove every unknown from the road ahead. They do something better. They remind Joshua that he will not enter the unknown alone.

We need that reminder too. We face changes we did not choose, responsibilities we did not expect, and transitions that make us wonder whether we are ready. Sometimes we step into a new season with excitement. Sometimes we step into it with shaky hands and a lump in our throat.

God’s promise does not depend on our confidence. He does not say, “Be strong because you already feel strong.” He says we can be strong and courageous because He is faithful. The road ahead may hold things we cannot predict, but it will not hold one moment where God is absent.

Before you go into whatever this day requires, remember who goes before you. The God who calls you is not waiting at the finish line to see if you make it. He is already ahead of you, already with you, already holding what you cannot yet see.

Action: Think about one situation you are facing that feels uncertain. Before you try to solve it, name it honestly before God and pray, “Lord, go before me and help me trust You.”

Prayer: Faithful God, thank You for going before me into every place I cannot yet see. When I feel unsure, remind me that my confidence does not have to rest in my own strength. Help me trust Your presence more than my fear. Give me courage for the next step, wisdom for the decisions ahead, and peace in the places where I want answers too quickly. Thank You for staying with me and never leaving me to face life alone. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Thought for the Day: God is already present in the place I am afraid to enter.

Deuteronomy 31:7–8 reminds us that God goes before His people and stays with them. Joshua faced a new season with real responsibility, but he did not face it alone.

Whatever new place you are standing near today, remember this truth. God is not waiting to see whether you can handle it. He is already ahead of you, already with you, and already faithful.
