Israel was in the middle of a battle, and Joshua needed more time. More daylight. More hours to finish the fight. So he prayed something crazy—he asked God to make the sun stop. And God did. The sun stood still, the moon paused, and Israel won the victory. Scripture says, “There has never been a day like it before or since, when the Lord listened to a human being in this way.”
Devotional
Joshua didn’t ask for something reasonable. He didn’t pray a “safe” prayer. He prayed for the impossible—and God answered.
How often do we play it safe when we pray? We ask for things that make sense, things that fit within natural boundaries. But Joshua’s story reminds us that God isn’t limited by nature. He isn’t confined to logic. If He can pause the sun in the sky, what makes you think He can’t handle your situation?
God is still in the business of answering bold prayers. The question is—are we praying them? Are we asking for the impossible, trusting that the One who created the universe can bend it to His will?
Maybe it’s time to stop praying small and start believing big.
Action
What’s something in your life that seems too big, too impossible, too unrealistic to ask for? Pray anyway. Ask boldly. Trust that God is still the God who makes the sun stand still.
Prayer
Lord, help me to stop putting limits on what You can do. Give me the faith to pray bold prayers, to trust that You are bigger than my circumstances, and to believe that nothing is impossible for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Thought for the Day
Don’t pray small prayers to a limitless God.
